Mountain Biking in Keystone, Colorado

keystone trailJust a half mile from our 4 bedroom Keystone Colorado rental house is a great mountain biking trail for mountain biking enthusiasts. If you go right off of Appaloosa Court on to Soda Ridge Road, Keystone Gulch Road is just a half mile away on your right. Keystone Gulch Road quickly ends at a trailhead. The Colorado mountain biking trail is wide enough for vehicles and in fact is open to vehicles at certain times of the year. This makes it an easy trail for newcomers to mountain biking. The trail follows the creek up towards the Outpost (the dining lodge for skiing the Outback at Keystone Colorado). It is a beautiful ride complete with waterfalls, beaver dams and other Keystone Colorado wildlife.

The trail starts out fairly easy and gets progressively more difficult. The first couple of miles is either a good warm up for the experienced mountain biker or a real workout for the newbie or a lowlander used to that oxygen rich, sea-level environment. We typically call it a day once we reach the Outback. However, for the hard core, Keystone Colorado mountain biker, the trail continues on all the way to the top of the Gondola out of River Run.

Keep in mind that Colorado weather changes quickly, especially in the summer. Lightning is a real threat when you are at or above tree level. It is a good idea to be heading back down the mountain by Noon. If you see weather moving in, it is time to head back to the house. By the way, some think that is the best part of mountain biking — heading back to the 4 bedroom Keystone Colorado rental house and into the private hot tub right off the back deck!

Also keep in mind that the bicycles at our 4 bedroom Keystone Colorado rental house are not for use by guests. These bikes are NOT safe for mountain biking. Even if they were, for liability reasons, we cannot let guests use the bikes. You can rent bikes at the Keystone Village lake.
